瀬戸現代美術展 2022 プレエキシビション Elements

窯業を中心に発展してきた歴史をもち、茶人、工芸家、工業デザイナー、芸術家といった多くの文化の交易点でもあった瀬戸市において、「生産」「創造」「文化」は今もなお密接な関係で街を形作っている。陶祖・藤四郎伝記にも登場する祖母懐（そぼかい）でも、家業の多くが何らかのかたちで窯業へ関わり、そこには様々な人々が出入りしていたことだろう。廃校となった学校に残された立派な窯は生活や教育の中に自然と「創造の街」としての姿があったことを物語る。そのような場所で、子ども達とアーティストが数日間のワークショップと2週間に渡る展覧会を行い、この街で行われてきた文化的交流を現代に現し、未来に引き継ぐことを目的とした。

SETO Contemporary Art Exhibition 2022 Pre-Exhibition Elements

- Venue: Former Sobokai Elementary School
Having primarily developed a long history of ceramic making and industry, Seto has served its role of cultural intersection between tea masters, artisans, industrial designers, and artists. Today, the city still sustains its deep relationship with “production”, “creation” and “culture.” Sobokai, located in central Seto, is referenced in the archival biography of the founder of Seto ware, Toshiro. Most of those who resided in this area used to be involved with the ceramic industry in one way or another. Perhaps, many people have also paid a visit to this area from different places. The kiln, which was still left in the abandoned Sobokai Elementary School at the time of the exhibition, showed the remains of the city’s craftsmanship. The exhibition aimed to reenact the cultural interaction in Seto and to pass it on to future generations, through several workshops with children led by artists and exhibiting their works for the duration of two weeks.
